Just bought a 2008 VTX T, which will probably be my last bike since my 78th birthday is coming soon. Sadly do not have room for my 2003 R, which has served me well for the last 3 years and 34K miles. Purchased it from original owner with just over 8K miles and is bone stock except for a little chrome and subtle orange flames he added and a darkside Altimax I added. Front and rear tire have good tread left and oil/filter changed every 3K miles with never any added between changes. Fluids, plugs, etc. changed as needed and, other than the above, I rode it w/o any problems year round. Cosmetically and mechanically it is outstanding for its age and I would not hesitate to go coast to coast if my body could take it.
