The best 450 on the track—better than ever. Honda’s awesome CRF450R has taken the lead in the four-stroke motocross revolution, and it’s still way out in front. To keep it there, we’ve given the king of the open class some serious updates for 2012. With a machine like this, anything less than perfection is unacceptable—and the 2012 CRF450R gives you the perfect balance of open-class Honda power, refined suspension, and the best brakes in the business. First, we’ve changed the rear shock linkage so you get a softer start and a stiffer finish. It responds to small bumps better, but still resists bottoming over really big hits. Fine-tuning the rear travel helps with steering during hard braking and on long, fast downhill sections. At the front, new fork outer tubes are stiffer for better feedback and superior tracking in heavy dirt, mud, and sand sections. New springs and suspension settings front and rear keep the balance right and increase steering precision. And we’ve even given the 2012 CRF450R wider, longer footpegs for better grip and comfort and fitted it with premium Dunlop MX51 tires for superior traction in corners and under acceleration. All in all, the CRF450R is the most dialed-in open-class MX bike we’ve ever rolled up to the start gate. That, combined with its legendary power, makes it the machine serious riders will be campaigning in 2012.

2014 Honda CRF450R, EFI - There is no second place. Riders and industry folk alike raved about the 2013 CRF450R. And , we?ve given them even more to love. For 2014, there?s new intake and exhaust ports, a new Dual-Timing PGM-FI fuel injection setup, and redesigned muffler internals to boost torque output and increase throttle response. The CRF450R is designed for the way riders ride today. There?s more whipping. More scrubbing. So we built a bike that takes weight off the bike?s ends, and concentrates mass towards the bike?s center. The first thing you?ll notice is our revolutionary air fork. It?s nearly two pounds lighter than a conventional coil-spring fork, taking weight off the front. And now with improved oil flow, this year the fork is even more responsive, delivering even better handling. And new clutch springs to enhance lever feel. The CRF450R also sports a compact dual exhaust, tucked closely to the frame to further enhance mass centralization. And with better exhaust flow, we?ve even managed to increase horsepower. There?s also our next-generation aluminum chassis, designed to help lower the center of gravity. All in all, the 2014 CRF450R takes the best and lightest bike in its class and makes it even better. And, in doing so, plants it firmly ahead of the pack.

2007 Honda CRF450R, 7919 - Cycle World's 2006 MX Bike of the Year. Five years in a row. The CRF450R has won pretty much every honor thrown its way?and it has no plans of letting up. Which is why we've made it even lighter, more responsive and better handling than ever, retooling the cylinder head and intake valves, boosting the carb to 41 mm, and adding a new brake lever linkage to improve stopping power, a new subframe and a Dunlop 742 FA front tire. Wicked, huh?

2013 Honda CRF450R, 5467 - Winning Is Everything. Everyone is going to remember 2013 as the year Honda took the 450 class and blew it WIDE open with the totally redesigned CRF450R. Huge changes are going to jump out at you. First is the CRF450R?s all-new air-fork front suspension. Nearly two pounds lighter than a coil-spring fork, it offers easier adjustment, less internal friction, and even better handling. Next, an all-new twin-spar aluminum frame. You?ll see some big changes in the steering-head area. That?s because the frame is designed specifically to work with the new fork. Check out the CRF450R?s short radical new twin exhaust. The system moves the mufflers in way closer to the bike?s center of mass. They?re super short and compact, and work in perfect concert with the 2013 model?s new bodywork to make this the most flickable CRF450R ever! In fact, everywhere you look you?re going to see upgrades this year: The engine gets a new piston shape, porting, and valve timing, along with more compression for more power. The radiators are smaller and flow more air. The clutch is totally redesigned with six springs for better feel at the lever. Even the footpegs and tires get the Honda touch. Without a doubt, the 2013 CRF450R is the most dialed-in bike and still the lightest weight in its class. Do your part, and you?re going to be a permanent fixture on the podium with this one.
