As long as we keep building and refining the Sportster®, that definition will stay true. If you’ve never swung a leg over, you should. Once astride, twist the throttle and feel the V-Twin generate mounds of torque. It’s a satisfying rush that hits you right in the pit of your stomach. We rubber-mounted the engine to the frame for a more comfortable ride — no road is unfamiliar territory, no journey too far. And though riding a Sportster has always been a blast, we keep finding more ways to make things even more rider friendly. We redesigned the transmission so it shifts smoother. Take a quick trip through the gears and you’ll no doubt appreciate the near-effortless clutch. There’s also improved kickstand ergonomics — now the bike is easier to reach and lift. The pure American street machine just keeps getting better. Something about the 1200 Custom pulls you in. At first glance, you see it in the swept-back handlebar, pullback riser and bullet-style headlight. But you can’t quite put your finger on it. Then you check out the wheels. Chrome Slotted Disc with wide tire in back. Laced wheel up front. Center stage sits the 4.5-gallon tank. The machine takes over your thoughts. In the saddle, you feel it in the forward foot controls and low seat. Carrying on a tradition started in 1957, the Sportster family continues its evolution, providing quick, responsive handling, a flat torque curve and raw, racy style. This year, all Sportster models receive the popular bullet-style turn signals first introduced in 2000 on the FXSTD. In addition, a more rigid exhaust flange connects the exhaust system to the cylinder heads, providing improved styling and a more durable exhaust system. Finally, a new fuel shut off valve provides a more tactile feel between the on and off setting, and enhanced styling.

2008 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Nightster, old skool cool! Sounds as good as it looks! passenger seat available! detachable rack, all blacked out cool! - THE SPORTSTER HAS SEEN A LOT OF REFINEMENT OVER THE YEARS, BUT ONE LOOK AT THE NEW MEMBER OF THE FAMILY TELLS YOU THE KNUCKLES ARE STILL BARE. The dark recesses of the Sportster soul are still intact. Check out the old school fork gaiters. The drilled metal pieces. The rear fender is chopped and clean, thanks to new stop-turn tail lights and a side-mount license plate. A low suspension puts the seat at just over 25 inches, hard as the muscle behind it, the Nightster gets the 1,200-cubic-centimeters Evolution V-Twin engine. Rubber-mounted in the narrow, nimble Sportster frame and finished with shades of dark. In other words, it’ll put the edge back on a blade.
