I was lucky enough to buy this Harley Davidson, 900cc KH, K-model, ten years ago.Just a rolling chassis, with engine cases, one cylinder, and the original speedometer assembly. Several years and many new friends later, the finished project was the bike you see listed here. Two things I learned early on, was that the speedo was rare, and needed to be rebuilt correctly. Done. Next thing was, after removing the wheels, then tires from the rims, I see that they are both 19 inch, front and rear. Looked over the rims carefully. On the inside, the part #'s include a "-R" suffix. So we have to save these, original R wheels. The chrome was bad and some serious pits. Solution was to have them powder coated. Then, laced with stainless steel spokes, from Buchanan. Marv, from Genuine Cycle, Leroy NY, did the wheels, and contributed his knowledge to other parts of this project. The bike's color is pearl antique white and metallic root beer brown, with gold pinstripes. I ride this bike. It has 2050 fun miles on the odometer, and a few very small chips in the still excellent paint job. The modified Sportster fuel tank has a mural on one side, H-D on the other side. An original, larger, correct K-model gas tank, with matching paint is shown in photos, and also included in this auction. Progressive Suspension, 412 Magnum, rear shocks and Progressive front springs, and an original style, double spring plunger seat, make for a nice smooth ride. There is a lot of extra chrome, wheel hubs, fasteners, and more. This is a complete nut and bolt restoration, so all wheel bearings and hardware is new. Fork tubes by Frank's. Tires are Avon Roadrunners. This is a 900 cc motor. Not very many of these around. It was rebuilt by Dave at Topeka KS, Harley-Davidson. A shop with a great flat track history, and a few rebuilt K-models in their basement bike museum. The cylinders are sleeved and bored. The heads were milled and polished by FLO headworks. They were double plugged, but that didn't improve performance, so they are again single plugged. For a 60 year old bike, this KH runs very smooth. Mr Leineweber reground the cams. Just a bit more lift than a KHK. Of course, all nitrate valves. The magneto is Morris, with a different tag on it. The carb is a CV from a newer Sportster with a "jet kit" installed. Some serious compression going on here. I don't remember what ratio pistons are. No vibration like you get with older Sportsters. I have cruised along at 70 mph with no problems. Surely there was more throttle left but this bike gets respect. Easy on the gas. 12v electrical system, with a Cycle Electrics High Quality Generator. A small battery is parked behind the custom made tool box cover. Key switch works fine, hi -low beam from a Softail headlamp, so I can see at night. The dash panel is original and was with the bike. Both keyhole sprung covers operate fine. The speedometer is also original and operating. Professionally rebuilt, as stated earlier, and still ticking. Last fall, contemplating selling this spring, I brought the bike to American Cycle Fab, Bloomsburg PA, fast flathead guys and Bonneville record holder. They completely went thru the top-end, set tappets, blasted and lapped heads, adjusted carb, installed new wet clutch plates, and adjusted clutch and primary chain. After it was back together it was ran on the dyno. All Good! Cost over $2,500. In November it went into winter storage, Stabilizer in the gas tank. Two weeks ago when it finally warmed up, here on the shores of Lake Ontario, I parked the K-model in the sun for a few hours. Then it was time to start. Three twists on the throttle, so the CV pump could get some gas into it. Choke out, two kicks, choke in, three more kicks and it fires right up. Darn it!! Sounded so great, went for a putt, couldn't part with it. But it has to go, need more room in the garage for another classic. This bike has the Indy decal on the oil tank, from when I ran in it the Cycle World Rolling Concours 2012 Bike Show, at Indy Moto GP week, 2012. 1st place, American Classic. Pick up, after the sale, is the responsibility of the buyer. I can assist in shipping, and have done this before. After payment is made, we can strap this baby down on a steel H-D pallet, and load it on whoever you choose, for a small fee, for the guys who do the work. Previously listed in auction format, Price lowered and now offered as a buy it now. All receipts are here if requested, and also included is an extra pair of K-model heads. Please e-mail me with any questions. Thanks for looking.
