2003 DUCATI 999S MONOPOSTO, Riding a Ducati superbike feels like a privilege, it's a very special experience. As soon as you've turned the key, pushed the starter button and waited for the deep rumble from the REMUS exhaust you know you're in for a treat. From the early 916s through to the latest incarnation, the 999S, the feeling is the same.Exclusivity, that's the key, combined with the knowledge that the bike you're riding is at the absolute peak of its game. And riding a 999S is all this, and even more.1) The 'L' two cylinders revolutionThe Testastretta is the latest evolution of the Desmodromic engine. Compared to the previous generation Desmoquattro, the new Ducati 999 engine incorporates multiple improvements including a completely redesigned crankshaft, cylinders, and cylinder heads. The cylinder heads have a steep included valve angle of only 25 degrees; 12 degrees for the intake valves and 13 degrees for the exhaust valves. This allows a very compact combustion chamber, and enables the use of flat top pistons while still having a high compression ratio of 11.4:1. Flat top pistons are the optimal choice for efficient combustion because they create the best environment for a smooth and linear flame front. The intake and exhaust valves have increased in diameter to 40 mm and 33 mm, respectively. The Testastretta's Desmodromic timing system has evolved significantly with improvements in the design of components and the use of advanced surface treatments, which result in longer maintenance intervals for the valve-train. The stroke of the Testastretta engine in the 999 is 63.5 mm. The shorter stroke lowers the average speed of the piston resulting in a higher RPM redline, maximum performance, and improved reliability. In addition, the lubrication circuit was engineered and developed directly from Ducati's extensive racing experience.A new deep sump is integrated into the engine casing, which ensures constant oil pick-up even when the motorcycle is accelerating aggressively or cornering at extreme lean angles. The exhaust system and single-muffler have an innovative non-symmetrical layout that takes advantage of the free space created by the new swing arm and rear section of the frame. The paths of the manifolds and the high-volume single-muffler have resulted in a significant improvement in torque at the middle of the RPM range. The L-twin engine configuration uses exhaust pipes of different lengths. Optimally, exhaust pipe

2006 Ducati Superbike 999s, THIS BIKE IS SUPER CLEAN - TOP NOTCH PERFORMANCE ? UNBEATABLE COMPONENTS The 999s is at the top of its class (with the exception of the pure racing versions) thanks to its engine performance and outstanding components. It features an especially powerful Testastretta engine that delivers a track-hungry 143 horsepower and a Corse-derived low sump crankcase for consistent oil feed even during full race conditions. The extra power is delivered in a smooth linear fashion to boost performance whether you are riding around hairpin bends halfway up a mountain or powering around a race track. Ducati?s considerable experience on circuits around the world can also be seen in the suspension: the front end features a TiN-treated 43 millimeter upside-down Öhlins fork with Teflon guides and top-out spring. The fork uses special bottoms for the radial-mounted, four-pad front brake calipers, ensuring maximum braking performance. At the rear end the Öhlins shock absorber, together with the box-sectioned rear swingarm, maximizes grip and the control system with one-way valve acts on the rebound damping, allowing complete separation between compression and rebound functions. The triple-bridge front brake calipers are radial-mounted with four pistons and four pads, and are used in combination with 4.5 millimeter thick discs, wide-mounted in order to ensure adequate cooling. The radial mount makes the caliper-fork mount assembly more rigid, thus improving braking system efficiency. The box-sectioned aluminum alloy rear swingarm (the same as the one on the 999R Factory race bike) gives the bike a more marked racing look and increases on-road grip thanks to its excellent rigidity/weight ratio. The five-position adjustable foot rests are fitted as standard, to further adapt the bike to rider preferences, as well as the adjustable Öhlins steering damper with special cam, which enables easier repositioning upon altering the headstock rake angle (from 23.5 degrees to 24.5 degrees). The motorcycle comes with a race kit that includes a complete Termignoni exhaust, an electronic control unit with race mapping and a carbon fiber silencer cover. Note: Only single-seat version of 999s available in North America.
