From 1989-1993 fewer than 7,000 were sold and less than 600 came to the US. Offered up in my favorite red and yellow scheme, this one has got 33 K miles and still looks great! Developed in the wind tunnel, upon release the K1 had the lowest drag coefficient of any production motorcycle. BMW introduced a number of technologies on this bike, including its first ABS system, the Paralever swingarm, a 16-valve in-line four and an improved engine management system. She its a fantastic high speed sport-touring highway machine that remains forward-looking and futuristic as a tribute to the original design, and we love it. When it comes to fine mechanical craftsmanship, high speed and long term endurance it is hard to beat the Germans. The K1 was known for its low drag factor and its ability for high-speed touring. This motorcycle has low mileage, shows very good condition and it was meticulously maintained. I bought it from a motorcycle collector in Atlanta, GA and yes, this unique machine is for the strictly serious motorcycle buyer/collector that likes to ride and show this iconic unique German machine. Anytime one is seen traveling down the road it literally almost stops traffic. Certainly the K1 is one of BMWs most famous bikes ever and it is said they are set up to cruise all day on the autobahn at average 135 mph. The bike runs just as it should, stops as it should and sounds phenomenal, especially when accelerating rapidly. Along with the closely related BMW F800S, other bikes in the F-bike range are the dual-sport F800GS, and the naked F800R. It has the same frame, engine, and suspension as the F800S, but differs primarily in fairing design and handlebar type. Closeup of engine and transmission BMW developed with Rotax a 798 cc (48.7 cu in) parallel-twin engine with a 360 degree firing order. This produced an exhaust note reminiscent of BMW's signature air-cooled boxer twins. However, this firing order required both pistons to move up and down at the same time. To counter the significant inertia produced by the pistons reciprocating, BMW devised a third vestigial connecting rod to a balance weight. The result was a parallel twin with significantly reduced vibration compared with other parallel twin engine designs. The engine is oiled by a dry sump system, and a soft ignition-cut rev limiter engaged at 9,000 rpm. BMW tuned the F800 series engine to run lean, typically with air-fuel ratios in the range of 15:1 to 16:1. The F800ST has a low-maintenance belt drive and single sided swingarm. Bikes equipped with ABS also include a rear-wheel lift detection system.
