Hello. I'm selling my 2001 BMW K1200LT. I picked this up a few months ago because I thought I wanted something more comfortable, but it turns out I just like riding my Sportster more. I have a young child, so my time is limited and I only really ride back and forth to work these days and the BMW is overkill. Plus it's winter and I don't feel like working on it in the cold. I bought it, and other than changing the battery I haven't done anything to it. It will need a bit of work. The biggest issue is that the clutch slips. It's fine in the lower gears, but if you hammer the throttle in 4th or 5th the revs will go up and the speed stays the same. If you are gentle with the throttle then the speed will increase. I drove it to my house and back without any issues, but it's definitely something that needs to be addressed. I drilled a hole in the clutch basket to see what would come out and it was oil, so my assumption is that the main seal needs to be replaced. And if you're going through all that trouble you might as well change the clutch and slave cylinder and then not have anything to worry about. You can still drive this bike around. I've put about 100 miles on it without any problems. Goes down the highway fine, you just can't grip it and rip it when you are in 4th or 5th. The front tire needs to be replaced, and the front fender is held on with wire. Overall the body is clean, but there are a few scrapes here and there. The back latch on the trunk is broken so the trunk is held down with a bungee cord. I was told that the rear brake sticks, so I just didn't use it. The headlight is out. Has a set of PIAA driving lights on the front forks that work, but the additional wiring under the seat wasn't done well. There's an additional PIAA fog light set underneath the "wings" on the body, but one fog light is MIA. The speedometer worked, but now is intermittent - supposedly a simple fix to repair the wire but I haven't looked at it. Needs an oil change and probably the sight glass as well. Does not have the oil filler or tool kit. Could use a good cleaning as well. Has tape marks on one mirror because one of the quick-disconnects is broken and if you hit a good bump the mirror pops off (it's zip-tied so it doesn't get left behind). Has heated grips that work well, has the on board computer that tells you the outside temperature/MPG/distance to empty/average speed. Has a six-disc changer in the right side bag, and a single changer up front and they both work. ABS lights flash when you first stop but then they go out as soon as you start going so the ABS system is working. Does the whole smoke thing if you leave it on the side stand for a while, but once you get going it stops. Does not have an alarm. Has three plain keys, and what I assume is the original/spare. Clean NJ title signed by the previous (and orginal - only has 44 miles listed) owner. Supposedly it was always serviced by BMW, but I didn't try to call and see if they had any records. If you had any questions please feel free to ask. While replacing the main seal is time-consuming, it does look to be fairly straighforward. If you did that and the slave cylinder, then you'd have the piece of mind knowing that it was done and that you wouldn't have to worry about it. I'm not in a huge rush to sell it, the money would certainly be nice but if it doesn't sell I'll hold on to it until the spring and maybe just fix the clutch if I get bored between then and now. Then again I'm always looking for other projects.Bike is sold as-is where is. I've done my best to tell you everything that's wrong with it, but I am not a BMW mechanic. I may be able to help with delivery, or meet you half-way. Bike is currently located in Pemberton, NJ zip code 08068. Deposit due within 24 hours of auctions end. Can do PayPal for entire amount if you cover the fees. Otherwise cash is king.
