In 2WD, steering is light and nimble. Shift on the fly into 4WD and power is delivered to the front wheels. The front wheels spin at different speeds while the steering effort remains minimal. For the ultimate traction, activate the electronic front differential lock and power is sent to all four wheels, enabling you to crawl, climb and continue on with confidence. This tire will take you where you want to go confidently. DURAMATIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION As the name implies, our Duramatic automatic transmission is tough. CVT (continuously variable transmission) technology responds to vehicle speed, engine RPM and load. The three main components are a primary clutch, secondary clutch (driven clutch) and belt. The primary clutch is always engaged, thus reducing belt wear. FULLY INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION The fully independent suspension on the Alterra 450 and 400 models gives you an impressive 10 inches of ground clearance and 7 inches of suspension travel on a smaller machine. The double A-arms optimize wheel motion, translating into more responsive steering and better cornering. REAR 2-INCH RECEIVER No need to keep multiple hitches around. The 2-inch rear receiver that comes standard on the 500, Alterra 450 and Alterra 400 are exactly what you d expect it to be: strong and reliable, just like the one on your truck. A variety of SPEEDPoint attachments allow for your machine to be even more versatile. SPEEDRACK® SYSTEM Built-in entry points make it super easy to add attachments to these steel racks on your 500.
